A: Students will acquire the knowledge, attitude, and interpersonal skills to help them understand and respect self and others.
Materials
Kite, "Fly Your Kite" worksheet, Kite Venn Diagram activity sheet, yarn or string for kite tails, markers
Lesson Assessment (acceptable evidence):
Counselor will observe students as they share with classmates about their favorite role or responsibility.
Lesson Preparation Essential Questions:
How can you tell when someone is a productive community member?
Engagement (Hook):
As students enter the classroom the counselor will display a miniature kite to catch their attention. The lesson
activity will revolve around the kite theme.
Instructor Procedures:
1. Display kite and ask students what makes a kite fly. Discuss flying kites and what attributes the kite flyer needs to be successful (responsible, respectful, persistent, etc.)
2. Explain to students that we will complete Venn Diagrams about what attributes make a home and school run smoothly.
3. Explain that students will make paper kites listing their responsibilities and roles at home and school.
4. Ask students to share kites and talk about their responsibilities and roles.
